A Commission
the four pillars ring, designed around a relationship.
A surprise engagement ring. The starting brief: green and gold, yellow gold, low-set, simple. An engagement ring without a specific shape.
Two early ideas were considered, but the brief was open enough to need conversation before sketches could be drawn with intent.
A pause in the process
Some commissions begin with sketches; others begin with conversation. Here, the brief was open, green and gold, an engagement ring of no specific shape, and the conversation came first. About the couple, what drew them together, what this ring was meant to hold. The design grew from that.
Sketches followed the conversation. An emerald held by four points of contact, diamonds graduating along the band.
The Four Pillars emerged. Four posts coming together to hold the emerald, each carrying one of four words from the conversation: love, support, friendship, family. Not engraved; held in the design itself.
Six weeks at the bench. The posts set, the emerald held, the diamonds graduated in 18ct yellow gold.
The finished piece.
The proposal was a surprise. The ring travels with her now.
